Prequel to 3rd Blogging Summer

I had a WONDERFUL book club tonight and with that, several revealations/previews for my 3rd summer of blogging and summer vacation. Some of these revelations are:

1. There are marked similarities between blogging and its distant (but well-loved and remembered) cousin, letter writing. Similarities include knowledge that more than one receiver will read and this is for posterity peeps, so don’t say something stupid.  Also like letter-writing, there are many people who haven’t taken this message of POSTERITY home, and blog like no one teacher_blog_pinterestis reading or will ever read in a future not yet imagined – a future with spouses and ex-spouses, employers and other folks who make judgement based on our dangling prepositions and use of four-letter words. Blogging is the 21st century letter that is non-destructible, powered by technology and the breathes of the future, and we should be mindful of what we are leaving behind for our children to read and see.

2.  Summer is coming upon us — and my bicycling, walking and pollen-loving sneezing is coming also. With every sneeze, I am inching closer to summer break, the teacher’s pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. And we get to find that golden treasure every year. How lucky am I to have the best profession in the world!

3. Which brings me to point # 3.  Counting my blessings. As a teacher, you might have heard that we have some challenges, issues and dare I say, bureaucratic conundrums to manage in our quest to actually TEACH A KID or two – or better yet a few hundred. However, no one likes a whiner. And when I say no one, I’m not kidding. Yes, it’s hard. Yes, I have bruises (literally), and that stinks. But I also have hugs (which don’t leave marks, more’s the pity) and occasionally a spark of recognition, a light bulb turns on and waaalaaa, new knowledge is imparted! Angels sing and I am a happy teacher librarian.

So looking forward to a summer of writing, basking in the glow of a little distance from our school year and planning a great school year for 2014-2015. Spring Break or as I’m thinking of it summer preview begins at 3:15 tomorrow, so I’m looking forward to the break.
